PARENT COUNSELING

ADHD Centre for Treatment Services

Parenting a child or youth with ADHD is a challenging, often overwhelming, task. Dr. Russell Barkly, a leading expert on ADHD, states, “ the challenge of raising a child with ADHD elevates parenting to a new, higher plane. Bringing up a child with ADHD may be the hardest thing you ever have to do… if you rise to the challenge, raising a child with ADHD can provide a tremendous opportunity for self-improvement and fulfillment as a parent”.  Given that this may be one of the most difficult things you will do, it is incredibly helpful to get the support of a knowledgeable and experienced counsellor to assist you in navigating demanding, and likely problematic, waters.

At ACTS, our counselors listen to your concerns, develop specific, effective behaviour management strategies to address these issues, improve communication and connection within the family thus deepening and strengthening attachment relationships and help you with the process of advocating for your child/youth in other environments where he/she may be experiencing challenges. Parenting a child with ADHD can be very hard but, with patience, understanding, and effective tools, it can be one of life’s most rewarding and fulfilling experiences.
